RAY STUDIO team member Xia Ping served as shooting director of Misty Simeng, a cultural tourism short film set in Xupu, Hunan.
“Misty Simeng” is an original local short film set in Simeng, Xupu County, Huaihua, Hunan. RAY STUDIO team member Xia Ping served as shooting director. The film was released across platforms on July 3, 2026, and publicly shared on Bilibili by the Guangdong RAY STUDIO team.
According to public reporting cited in the project material, the film draws on Simeng’s clear waters, Danxia landscapes and Xupu’s cultural association with poetry. It combines local intangible cultural heritage, a rural love story and rural revitalisation. The narrative follows An Yuan, a young man from Shenzhen, and Li Xuening, a Yao woman, while local young man Zhang Hanshan’s development connects the themes of returning home and rural enterprise.
The film treats the landscape, traditional opera and oil-tea camellia plantations as settings for human activity rather than isolated scenic attractions. Encounters among the trees, communal opera scenes, riverbanks and village life come together in a memorable cultural tourism narrative.

In government, tourism and city-image projects of this kind, a director must balance narrative coherence, accurate representation of local culture and effective pacing. Xia Ping and the team use the story to carry regional information, allowing scenery, cultural heritage and rural development to emerge through the characters’ relationships.
